COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- The University of Missouri Faculty Council has voted to support a plan to give veterans and students on active duty college credits for military coursework.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that the council voted to support the proposal last week. The recommendation now goes to the provost's office for review and implementation next fall.

Under the proposal, those with honorable service would be awarded a maximum of nine general elective credits and military science credits related to specific military branches.

For example, those who serve four years in the Air Force would receive four credit hours in aerospace studies.

Plus, departments could determine whether to grant credit for other military coursework.
