The Southeast Missourian newspaper has won four awards for news coverage of education from the Missouri State Teachers Association. A total of seven honors were awarded to daily newspapers in the contest.
Awards are presented in four categories for newspaper coverage. The Missourian won two: the features category for the weekly Learning Page and the photography category. The newspaper also received an honorable mention in the features category for its Teacher's Corner column and an honorable mention for editorials written about education.
The Sikeston Standard-Democrat won the award for editorials and for general coverage. The Sikeston newspaper also received an honorable mention in the features category.
The competition recognizes outstanding coverage of education and education issues by media across the state. Nominations are judged on originality, impact, objectivity, timeliness, appeal and contribution to education.
Awards will be presented to winners at the MSTA convention in St. Louis Nov. 9.
