CARUTHERSVILLE -- David P. Madison Jr., of Caruthersville, has been elected president of the Missouri Soybean Association (MSA).

Two Southeast Missourian John Moreton of Charleston and Robert Cook of New Madrid were re-elected to the association's Board of Directors.

"This is an exciting time for soybean producers," said Madison, who has served the past two years as vice president of the association, "collections for the national check soybean checkoff will start this summer. The rate of the checkoff assessment is one half of one percent of the net market price of soybeans sold by the producer to the first purchaser."

On the state level, the MSA is working to protect the interests of soybean producers.

"This year, we lobbied against central notification legislation; supported a bill to exempt farmers hauling fertilizer from have a commercial drivers license; and worked to defeat the Natural Streams Act," said Madison.
