Mr. G still lives in his own home but has some problems getting around. He cannot see well, which limits his activities.

Mr. G, 88, has a dog to keep him company in his small house. The two would like a few gifts for Christmas since they survive on limited income and help from Medicaid and Medicare.

Mr. G would like blue wash cloths and towels for Christmas. He also could use some paper goods for his home.

Gifts like toiletry items, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoos, soap and pet foods are needed to distribute to Christmas for the Elderly recipients. Fruit baskets, stamps or gift certificates at discount and grocery stores also would be helpful.

The recipients are referred by the Hoover Eldercare Center, Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center and state Division of Senior Services. Many of the elderly in the area have no relatives locally to remember them during the holidays.

Small gifts like dish towels and cleaning supplies are at the top of many seniors' lists this year. Other necessities are sweat suits in a variety of sizes and colors. Slippers and bath robes are also listed.

The Southeast Missourian newspaper will collect gifts for Christmas for the Elderly at its Cape Girardeau and Jackson offices with help from the Cape Girardeau Jaycees. The gifts should be donated by mid-December for delivery before Christmas.

Tax-deductible donations may be mailed to Christmas for the Elderly, P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0004.
