A motorcycle rider was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when he attempted to pass a farm tractor just as it turned off a rural road west of Jackson, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

About 1:35 p.m., Tommy J. Sousley, 47, of Millersville was eastbound on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Highway 72 about eight miles west of Jackson, when he attempted to pass an eastbound Case tractor on the road, the patrol said.

The tractor attempted a left turn and the motorcycle struck it, investigators said. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.

An ambulance transported Sousley to Saint Francis Medical Center with serious injuries, the patrol said.

The incident remained under investigation.
