Lauren Mosley of Sikeston attended the National Young Leaders Conference last week in Washington. The conference was a unique leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit.
The theme was The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today.
Highlights of the program included welcoming remarks from the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives and a panel discussion with prominent journalists at the National Press Club. Scholars visited foreign embassies and received policy briefings from senior government officials.
She also participated in a number of leadership skill-building activities. In one activity, "If I Were President," students role-played the president, members of the cabinet and representatives from Capitol Hill who must respond to an international crisis involving Russia. Culminating the conference was the "Model Congress," in which scholars assume the roles of representatives by debating, amending and voting on proposed legislation for an official language and immigration reform.
The conference was sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, a non-profit non-partisan education organization.
Mosley is the daughter of Peggy Matthews Ingram and Steve and Viney Mosley of Sikeston.
