Walter said Ivester was known to go for walks while wearing headphones and listening to loud music, so he may have been unable to hear the approaching train.

The train's engineer told authorities he saw Ivester and tried to warn him and stop the train but was unable to avoid striking the man, Walter said.

Funeral arrangements for Ivester are incomplete at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
