BENTON, Mo. -- A Morley, Missouri, man was arrested and charged Saturday for allegedly assaulting a police officer, driving on a revoked license and driving while intoxicated.

The man was identified as Steven Aters, 48, according to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter.

Aters was allegedly driving erratically on Route E outside Benton. According to a news release, deputy Matt Scroggins found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, identifying Aters as the driver.

While stopped, Scroggins observed Aters had bloodshot eyes, and that he struggled to answer Scroggins' questions. After discovering Aters did not have a valid driver's license or insurance, Scroggins placed him under arrest and transported him to the Scott County Jail.

While at the jail, Aters allegedly became combative and threatening toward sheriff office employees, the release said. Walter stated Scroggins was physically assaulted while attempting to de-escalate the situation.

Aters is in the Scott County Jail; his bond was set at $3,500 cash.
