The numbers of filings for municipal elections in Southeast Missouri is growing slowly, with a challenge now for the Ward 3 alderman seat in Perryville and a filing for the Ward 4 council seat in Scott City.
Ronald Worl filed for Scott City's Ward 4 council seat. Worl has lived in Scott City for 12 years and is a retired warehouse coordinator for the Coors company. He served in the ward as a council member from 2005 to 2007, when he resigned for medical reasons. During his term, he said, he served as chairman of the cemetery committee and forged a good relationship with Scott County coroner Scott Amick.
In Perryville, Prince Hudson filed for the Ward 3 alderman seat Thursday and will challenge Paul R. "Butch" Flentge, the incumbent since 1990.
Other Perryville incumbents who have filed in hopes of retaining their seats include Tom Guth for Ward 1, Curt Buerck for Ward 2, Deborah Gahan for mayor and Lori Carrol for city collector. Robert Hershey filed for municipal judge Dec. 19.
In Scott City, all city council members have filed for re-election with the exception of Norman Brant in Ward 4. Bill Schwartz will run in Ward 1, Pat Brazel in Ward 2, Walter Peetz in Ward 2 and Kirk Lewis in Ward 3.
Mayor Tim Porch has also filed for re-election.
In Benton, two incumbent aldermen with expiring terms, Geri Hennemann in Ward 1 and James Arteme in Ward 2, had not filed for re-election as of Friday. In Marble Hill, neither Roger Burr or Tim Meek had filed for re-election in Ward 1 or Ward 2.
Filing for municipal elections closes Jan. 17, with the exception of Cape Girardeau, for which filing is already closed.
