More details emerge about woman who went missing

A spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department revealed more details surrounding the disappearance of a young woman found Monday in Cape Girardeau County.

A report of a missing woman, whose name has not been revealed, was filed with the local police department Saturday evening, said public information officer Darin Hickey. The 22-year-old woman was found Monday afternoon on Highway 25 in Dutchtown near the Diversion Channel.

Hickey said she had been on a boat with acquaintances, then got off and became lost in trying to find her way home. She entered and left the boat willingly, he said.

Before the woman was found, search parties were sent along the Diversion Channel in Cape Girardeau and Scott counties to find her. Members of the public went on foot and on four-wheelers searching Monday afternoon, along with the Cape Girardeau Fire Department and the Cape Girardeau and Scott County sheriffs' departments. A helicopter also was used.

Police also tried to find the woman Sunday night by tracking her cellphone.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment. She had no visible injuries; Hickey said he was not able to confirm her mental state.
