The East Missouri Action Agency has received over $40,000 in federal money to provide emergency utility crisis assistance. The money is available to individuals and families who may find themselves without heat this winter. The funds are to be used as a last resort in cases where utilities have been shut off or shut-off notices have been issued...

The East Missouri Action Agency has received over $40,000 in federal money to provide emergency utility crisis assistance.

The money is available to individuals and families who may find themselves without heat this winter. The funds are to be used as a last resort in cases where utilities have been shut off or shut-off notices have been issued.

Local East Missouri Action Agency offices will be taking applications throughout the winter months for the program.

To apply, applicants must bring social security cards for all household members, proof of income for the previous month, ages of family members, disability status if applicable, and a utility shut off or similar notice.

For information, call the Cape Girardeau office at 334-5533.

Low-income families in need of utility assistance are also encouraged to check with the Division of Family Services' Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for additional help.
