KENNETT, Mo. -- Dunklin County officials were busy Tuesday assessing damage in Kennett following a Monday afternoon storm.

Authorities received reports of downed power lines, broken fences, turned over camping trailers and other damage in one neighborhood.

Witnesses said a cotton trailer and two flatbed trailers from Frey Farms were blown across Highway 25, landing in the parking lots of two nearby businesses.

According to assistant fire chief David Horton, other damage reported included a center pivot at Frey Farms being destroyed, as well as the company's temporary office being blown off its foundation blocks.

Horton said a duplex on Riggs Street had part of the roof displaced. It was lying against the fence at a nearby property, where a semi trailer was also blown over.

The National Weather Service said winds were as high as 70 mph, Horton said.

Horton said the damage was done by straight-line winds.

Just north of Kennett, a car port was ripped from a home and wrapped around a tree.

No figures on damage estimates were available Tuesday.
