DEXTER, Mo. -- Two Scott City men and a Sikeston man were killed in a Monday morning traffic accident after allegedly failing to stop for a Stoddard County Sheriff's Department deputy near Dexter, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Mural D. Davis, 42, and his son, Ernest D. Davis, 21, both of Scott City, and Duane K. Caston, 47, of Sikeston, Mo., were ejected from their vehicle in the accident, which occurred between 1:30 and 2 a.m. on Highway 25 at U.S. 60, according to highway patrol spokesman Clark Parrott.
Mural Davis and Caston were pronounced dead at the scene. Ernest Davis was air lifted to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau but died later Monday morning, officials said.
The highway patrol major crash team is assisting Dexter Police Department with an investigation into the crash, Parrott said. The investigation is expected to take 30-45 days.
The Stoddard County deputy attempted to stop the 1995 Pontiac Grand Am for a traffic violation and the driver of the vehicle failed to stop, Parrott said, adding this was not a pursuit.
The Grand Am traveled southbound on Highway 25 and ran off the left side of the roadway at the westbound entrance ramp to U.S. 60, he said.
It is unknown at this time how fast the vehicle was traveling, or who was driving.
