A Jackson man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a two-car accident near U.S. 61, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports website.

The accident occurred 5 miles south of Old Appleton at around 3:55 p.m. as a 1993 GMC driven by Sherman L. Rutherford, 46, of Jackson crossed the center line of the roadway and struck a 1990 Ford driven by Jason B. Doza of Jackson. The GMC then continued off the roadway and struck a tree near U.S. 61.

Both vehicles were totaled. Rutherford was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he was treated for serious injuries.
