MoDOT to fully activate new traffic signals on Kingshighway on Monday

New traffic signals, currently flashing yellow, will be fully activated on Monday to regulate traffic at the intersection of South Kingshighway and Silver Springs Road, state highway officials said.

The new signals are part of a $1 million intersection improvement and relocation project.

Sensors installed in the pavement will activate the signals, providing an efficient flow of traffic, highway officials said.

The Missouri Department of Transportation and the city of Cape Girardeau are sharing in the cost. MoDOT awarded a contract for the work to Lappe Cement Finishing Inc. of Perryville, Mo., in February.

While the signals will be in full operation on Monday, construction will continue on the intersection work. MoDOT engineer Darius Dowdy said the project should be finished by mid-November.
