ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A federal investigation's finding in the Minneapolis bridge collapse is prompting the Missouri Department of Transportation to take another look at more than 200 bridges.
MoDOT bridge engineers began their study Wednesday. That was one day after investigators announced that 16 steel gusset plates at the Minnesota bridge that collapsed in August were a half-inch too thin.
Federal investigators believe the faulty plates caused the collapse that killed 13 people.
In Missouri, MoDOT engineers will look at designs for each of the 232 bridges in the state system with gusset plates.
