The Missouri Department of Transportation announced today that a major project to overlay pavement on Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau and Perry counties will start much sooner than originally planned.
The project contract was originally set to be awarded in fiscal year 2011, which begins on July 1, 2010. But according to a document posted on the website of MoDOT's Southeast District, additional funding has accelerated the project, and a contract could be awarded in January.
The project involves overlaying pavement on I-55 from the U.S. 61 interchange at Fruitland in Cape Girardeau County to the Route B interchange in Perry County, and could begin as early as spring 2010, with completion in fall 2010.
More information on the project, as well as a link to leave a comment about the project, is available at http://www.modot.org/southeast/news_and_information/public_meetings/.
The official comment period ends Nov. 6. Comments can also be left by calling Project Manager Eric Krapf at (573) 472-5261 or MoDOT's Southeast District Customer Service Center at (573) 472-5333.
