In an effort to bring in extra funds for roadway and bridge projects, the Missouri Department of Transportation's Southeast District is selling some of its properties. Parcels in Cape Girardeau, Stoddard, Butler, Perry, Dunklin and Pemiscot counties are for sale through the department's "Realty to Roads" campaign.
The latest additions to the campaign are former maintenance facilities in Brazeau, Mo., and Arbyrd, Mo.
The Brazeau maintenance facility is a 3.43-acre parcel on the north side of Route C, about 750 feet west of the intersection of routes C and D in Perry County. There are several structures on the property, including a shop/garage, concrete containment area for gas trucks, open front material storage building and equipment hoist pavilion.
The Arbyrd maintenance facility is a 3.9-acre parcel at the southwest corner of the intersection of Route 25 and County Road 610 in Dunklin County. Structures on the property include a shop building, cold storage building, salt storage building, concrete fuel containment basin and portable sheds. A concrete pad is also on the site.
Both parcels will be sold by sealed bid. Bids will be opened and read at 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. May 31 for the Arbyrd and Brazeau facilities, respectively.
"While the Southeast District no longer needs this land," said Michael Smith, right of way specialist with MoDOT. "The parcels are valuable and we want to find the right buyers."
Smith added that the sale of excess right of way saves maintenance costs, reduces liability and puts the property back on the tax rolls to the advantage of local communities.
