Resurfacing Route K from the city limits on the east to the just beyond Interstate 55 on the west was originally slated to being in late March. But rainy, cold weather caused delays, and contractor Apex Paving started work on resurfacing I-55 in Cape Girardeau County before the Route K project.

Luther said such delays are not unusual in road projects.

When work begins it will take place between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Route K carries 15,410 vehicles a day, according to MoDOT figures.
