The intersection had been closed so the Missouri Department of Transportation could reduce the inside radius of the roundabout to accommodate the largest trucks. The island also was modified to help farm machinery negotiate the roundabout.

The work is part of a larger project that includes widening U.S. 61, adding a center turn lane and replacing the intersection with a roundabout. Completion is expected next summer.
