The Southeast Missouri Modelers Association will host its Charity Fun Fly on Saturday and Sunday at Galaxy Park in Cape Girardeau.

The event starts at 9 a.m. both days and will go until 5 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

While admission is free, there is a $10 fee to fly aircraft that can be paid upon arrival. Pilots who wish to fly must have an Academy of Model Aeronautics card.

The event will display aerial acrobatics and various kinds of aircraft, according to Brian Seyer, one of the club's event coordinators.

"There are going to be pilots from Illinois, Kentucky and Memphis coming in," Seyer said.

The last event the association had was an open house two years ago to let people see what the club was about. This year, association members chose to help others while doing something they love.

All of the proceeds for this event will go to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

"We know several people who have used St. Jude's, so we felt it would be good to raise money," said Daniel Cook, another coordinator and club member.

About 40 baskets with RC aircraft products will be raffled off Saturday to help raise money, and donations will be accepted at the concession stand.

"We've had over $3,000 in sponsored donations," Seyer said.
