NEW YORK -- Victoria Gotti, daughter of imprisoned mobster John Gotti, was granted a divorce from her scrap-dealer husband Carmine Agnello, who's serving a nine-year sentence on a racketeering and tax evasion conviction.
Nassau County Judge Ira Raab granted the divorce Wednesday, Gotti attorney Stephen Gassman said Thursday.
Victoria Gotti, who forged her own career as a best-selling novelist, has custody of the couple's three sons.
Agnello was sentenced to prison and ordered to forfeit $10 million as part of a plea deal reached last August.
While supposedly trying to separate herself from her mob family background, Victoria Gotti has remained close to her father, the former head of the Gambino crime family who is serving a life sentence for murder, extortion and racketeering.
Gates praises advances in mobile technology
STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates expressed confidence on Thursday that advances in mobile technology will create "huge opportunities" for the software industry and said his company was ready to take advantage of them.
Gates, who was in Stockholm to accept an honorary doctorate from Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology, said he was optimistic that so-called third-generation mobile networks would be successful.
Telecommunications companies have invested heavily in developing new technology that lets handsets connect to the Internet and download video and e-mails, but introduction of the services has been slower than expected.
The institute presented the honor to Gates for his leadership in information technology.
Man seeking Spielberg ordered to stay away
LOS ANGELES -- A man who said he only wanted to be in the movies was ordered to stay away from Steven Spielberg for three years after he was jailed for trespassing at Spielberg's offices.
Christopher Richard Hahn, 30, of Saskatchewan, must stay 150 yards away from the director and his family, as well as his home and workplace.
Hahn was arrested Jan. 11 after authorities said he tried to meet Spielberg by breaking into the director's offices at the DreamWorks SKG studio in Studio City. Superior Court Judge Alan Haber granted the restraining order Jan. 16, according to court records.
When Hahn was arrested, he gave a phony name and birth date.
