Mo. tourism director Leutkemer to run for Congress

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The state tourism director announces his candidacy for Congress.

Tourism Director Blaine Luetkemeyer is the third Republican to enter the race to succeed Congressman Kenny Hulshof.

Hulshof is not seeking re-election because he is running for governor.

Luetkemeyer served in the state House for six years and lost a Republican primary for treasurer in 2004. While announcing his candidacy for Congress, Luetkemeyer promoted "safe borders, fiscal security, strong national defense and less government waste."

State House member Danie Moore and former football player Brock Olivo also are running as Republicans.

Former House Speaker Steve Gaw and Marion County Presiding Commissioner Lyndon Bode have entered the Democratic race.
