SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- A faculty group at Missouri State University has asked the university to extend employee benefits to domestic partners of school employees.
But a member of the Springfield university's board of governors says the proposal is unlikely to be approved.
Jeremy Chesman, who led a faculty task force that studied the issue, says providing domestic partners with benefits is important to help recruit and retain the best faculty.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Brian Hammons, chairman of the Missouri State Board of Governors, says state policies don't favor extending the benefits.
No state college in Missouri offers domestic partner benefits.
