State health officials say a 24-year-old Independence woman died Wednesday night, several days after she was hospitalized with symptoms including diarrhea, coughing and extreme fatigue. Her name was not released.

The Department of Health and Senior Services announced the death Thursday.

Independence health director Larry Jones said the woman had no other pre-existing conditions or illnesses.

In May, a 44-year-old St. Louis County man who had been diagnosed with swine flu after traveling to Mexico died at a St. Louis-area hospital.
