The Kansas City Star reports that officers were pursuing a suspicious vehicle Sunday morning after being called to investigate a reported drive-by shooting. Police say the suspect led them on a car chase after tossing items out of the vehicle.

The injured officer was reportedly struck when another officer swerved his vehicle to avoid a third officer who was chasing one of the suspects.

The injured officer suffered a broken bone in his left leg.
