Katy Trail coordinator Dawn Fredrickson said that to preserve the land, the path was cut using hand tools rather than machinery.

Hiking the one-way loop takes about two hours. It features steep hills 20 to 30 feet high.

The trail begins in the picnic area in the southwest sector of the park. One portion of it runs along the Kelley Branch stream.
