ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Paul police say a Missouri man who was fatally shot by officers after he stabbed a police dog to death, was a rape suspect.
Members of the North Star Fugitive Task Force were trying to pick up 32-year-old Alden Patrick Anderson of St. Louis on a first-degree criminal sexual conduct warrant Tuesday.
Officers went to a St. Paul home where they found Anderson armed with a knife in the basement. Police say Anderson fatally stabbed police dog Kody. Officers then fatally shot Anderson.
St. Paul police Officer Jeffrey Thissen was among officers who fired their weapons. Thissen is on standard administrative leave. Two deputy U.S. marshals also fired their weapons.
Kody was 9 years old and had been with the St. Paul Police Department for seven years.
