Mo. lawmakers back tax breaks for Canadian airplane maker

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri lawmakers give final approval to $240 million of incentives for a Canadian airplane maker to open an assembly plant in Kansas City.

The enticements for Bombardier Aerospace cleared the House on Wednesday with little opposition. They passed the Senate last week and now need only the signature of Gov. Matt Blunt.

There is no guarantee that Bombardier will build its planes in Kansas City. The Montreal-based company also is considering a site in its home country.

Missouri's plan offers up to $240 million in tax credits over eight years, beginning in 2013, based on the number of employees hired at the plant. The company would repay that by giving Missouri money for each plane it sells.
