JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri House has passed legislation that would give grants of up to $500 to students who score well on Advanced Placement tests.
Students who receive financial aid from the A+ Schools or Access Missouri programs could receive the grant if they score a 3 or higher on two tests in math or science subjects.
Gov. Jay Nixon had called for such a program in his State of the State address in January.
Sponsoring Rep. Wayne Wallingford, a Cape Girardeau Republican, says the grants will give more students an incentive to study math and science, which will benefit the state's economy.
The measure now goes to the Senate.
