Mo. governor visits Hannibal; next stop Canton

HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) -- Gov. Matt Blunt is touring levees and meeting with emergency management officials and volunteers in Hannibal and Canton.

In Hannibal, Blunt said the challenge facing Missourians would inspire their best.

Blunt said that he asked President Bush for a disaster declaration for flood-affected parts of the state on Sunday.

He said Missourians will bounce back, but it's heartbreaking to see what families are going through.

All was quiet in Hannibal on Wednesday, and sandbagging efforts have ceased because the situation is stable.

Emergency Management Director John Hark estimated that 20 to 40 homes in Hannibal will be flooded. The downtown tourism area is completely dry.
