Mo. Gov. Nixon touts veterans, business issues

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is highlighting his work on veterans and business issues as he makes a final campaign swing before the election.

Nixon was joined Monday at a Columbia diner by Democratic secretary of state candidate Jason Kander, a former Army intelligence officer who served in Afghanistan. Nixon highlighted several programs for military personnel, including a job-placement effort that he says has helped find work for 3,700 returning veterans.

The Democratic governor also was traveling Monday to Missouri State University in Springfield to tour a facility designed to help small businesses get started.

Nixon was wrapping up the day with a rally in Kansas City. He was to be joined there by several others on the Democratic ticket, including Kander, state Treasurer Clint Zweifel and Attorney General Chris Koster.
