JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is continuing his campaign to rein in tax credits, urging education leaders to help by lobbying lawmakers.
Nixon says Missouri's tax incentives have grown too big and divert funding from education and other government functions. His administration has proposed capping the credits and reorganizing the credit program.
The Democratic governor held conference calls Tuesday night with members of school boards and the governing boards of public universities and community colleges. He asked them to urge lawmakers to support his administration's tax credit overhaul.
House Republicans have criticized Nixon's proposals, which they say could hurt the economy. They've accused the governor of using education officials as props.
