A series by Callie Clark Miller, education writer for the Southeast Missourian, has won a national award from the Education Writers Association.
Miller's stories about the trials of first-year teacher Jason Bandermann received a third place/special citation in a category for newspapers under 100,000 circulation.
She was the only education writer from a Missouri newspaper to win an award this year. This year's contest received more than 500 entries.
"I'm more proud of this award than any others I've won," Miller said.
