Missouri Southern signs up for solar power plan
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State University is one of the first customers to pre-enroll to receive energy from a new City Utilities' solar farm. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State University is one of the first customers to pre-enroll to receive energy from a new City Utilities' solar farm.
If the Springfield City Council approves a pay structure proposed by the utility next month, the university would begin paying an additional 4 cents per kilowatt hour for 200 kilowatts of energy in October. That's the maximum amount that one customer can purchase from the new solar farm.
The Springfield News-Leader reported 200 kilowatts of solar energy would cost the university about $15,000 per year. The price of 12 cents per kilowatt would be locked in for 20 years, although the university is enrolling for two years to start.

The solar farm on a 40-acre lot in northeast Greene County is the largest in Missouri.
