Missouri seeks young adults to work in state parks

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. Missouri officials are seeking applications from young adults to work in state parks this summer.

The state plans to hire 600 to 700 people 17 through 21 years old to temporary jobs to help with maintenance, restoration, interpretation and social media at Missouri parks.

The program is designed to help teach young adults job skills and encourage them to enjoy the outdoors. Missouri hired more than 1,000 young adults last summer.

The program is funded through federal work force investment money.

Applications are available at the state's website, www.mo.gov

State Parks director Bill Bryan said Friday participants this summer will average longer hours.

He said the program helps young adults and is a boost for parks by allowing work to be completed that otherwise would not.
