Missouri pilot sues over F-15 crash
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A pilot for the Missouri Air National Guard is suing Boeing Corp. over a crash in November of the F-15C Eagle he flew during a training mission in mid-Missouri. Maj. Stephen Stilwell survived but suffered serious injuries when he ejected as the jet broke in half during the training mission over Dent County. ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A pilot for the Missouri Air National Guard is suing Boeing Corp. over a crash in November of the F-15C Eagle he flew during a training mission in mid-Missouri.
Maj. Stephen Stilwell survived but suffered serious injuries when he ejected as the jet broke in half during the training mission over Dent County. Stilwell was part of the 131st Fighter Wing at Lambert Airport in St. Louis.
The accident prompted the Air Force to ground more than 300 older model F-15s after finding cracks in some planes and parts that didn't meet safety specifications in others. The older planes were built by McDonnell Douglas Corp. of St. Louis. Boeing purchased McDonnell Douglas in 1997.
