UNION, Mo. (AP) -- A 50-year-old eastern Missouri man admits to attacking a teenager with a baseball bat.

Fredrick Long of Union entered the guilty plea Tuesday just as he was about to go to trial for the 2004 incident. He was charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and tampering with a vehicle. Sentencing is in October.

The crime happened after a high school football game. Investigators say Long attacked an 18-year-old with an aluminum baseball bat, then used the bat on the victim's pickup truck.

Authorities say a prior argument at the game involving Long's son led to the attack.

The teenager who was attacked was seriously injured but survived.
