At Library Advocacy Day held last week in Jefferson City, Mo., librarians, library trustees and friends from across the state met with state representatives and senators to discuss the importance and contributions of all libraries (academic, public and school) to the lives of Missourians.
These meetings with elected officials raise awareness of the importance of state aid to public libraries, state-funded programs such as Internet access, information databases and technology provided by MOREnet and the services of the Missouri State Library.
Two Riverside Regional Library staff members, Oran branch manager Virginia Robert and Jackson children's librarian Lynn Farrow, attended the event. They visited with local representatives and asked for their support. They attended presentations by the Missouri Library Association president, its legislative committee chairwoman, the state librarian, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and others.
