Missouri lawmakers to make another attempt on jobs bill

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Senate Republicans will make one more attempt to negotiate a business-incentive bill with the House during Missouri's special legislative session.

After Republicans met behind closed doors Tuesday, Senate President Pro Tem Rob Mayer said they had decided to reconvene the full Senate next Monday to ask the House for a conference committee on the economic development legislation.

But prospects for an agreement remain uncertain.

Mayer reiterated that the Senate will not pass a bill unless it places a 2018 expiration date on two of Missouri's most costly tax credits for developers of low-income housing and historic buildings. The House last week overwhelmingly rejected an amendment that would have imposed such "sunset" clauses.

Mayer says he hopes to end the special session next week -- regardless of whether a bill passes.
