JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri hotels now have a way to show their efforts at sustainability.

The Missouri Hotel & Lodging Association's green certification program cites member properties that use energy-efficient and waste-reduction measures to lower their environmental impact. The program went into effect earlier this year.

The sustainable practices are assigned point values, and hotels that score a minimum of 100 points are certified and can then display a "certified green" decal.

So far, nine of the nearly 550 hotels and resorts that belong to the MHLA have obtained the certification.
