Missouri has $202.6 million Powerball winner

ST. LOUIS -- The winner of a $202.6 million Powerball jackpot drawn Saturday has yet to come forward, Missouri Lottery officials said Monday, noting that the ticket was sold at a downtown St. Louis newsstand.

The winner has until May 7 to claim the jackpot at lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, choosing to take a lump sum -- roughly $126.5 million before taxes -- or 30 annual payments.

The winning ticket was sold at Gateway Newstand in Union Station.

"We are ready to give this check away," May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery, said as she clutched a reproduction of the nine-figure prize check during a news conference at the store.

The store's owner will receive $50,000 for selling the winning ticket. The winning numbers were: 9, 19, 33, 38 and 54, with a Powerball number of 15.

Reardon said Missouri has sold 30 Powerball-winning tickets, second only to Indiana among the 44 states that participate in the national lottery game.

Missouri's lottery had record sales of nearly $1.16 billion during the 2014 budget year that ended June 30, marking its fifth straight year of growth and the fourth consecutive year that it set a new high for revenues. Yet the amount of lottery proceeds transferred to education declined to $267 million this past year from a high of nearly $289 million in 2013.

That drop recently prompted the governor to launch an investigation of the lottery's operations, and he replaced all five members of the lottery commission's board.
