SALEM -- The Missouri deer season has been established by the Missouri Conservation Commission.
The modern firearms season wil run from Nov. 14 through Nov. 22 and the muzzle-loading firearms deer season will run from Nov. 14 through Nov. 22 and from Dec. 5 through Dec. 13. The archery deer and turkey season will be from Oct. 1 through Nov. 13 and from Nov. 23 through Dec. 31.
Hunting hours will remain unchanged, but there will be one change in boundaries of deer management zones. The boundary change involves moving part of the northeast corner of Unit 57 into Unit 56.
The purpose of the change is to address nuisance deer problems in the area by allowing the harvest of does as well as bucks. Unit 57 in southeast Missouri will remain the only area of the state where only bucks may be taken.
Other changes in the 1992 deer hunting regulations compared to last year include:
Reductions in doe harvest quotas in Units 23, 24, 29, 30, 31, 49, 50 and 51.
Increases in doe harvest quotas for 22 other units.
Permitting hunters to carry two muzzle-loading firearms during muzzleloader season.
A rule that detaching a deer transportation tag before killing a deer renders the deer hunting permit invalid
A rule allowing the donation of commercially processed deer meat to not-for-profit charitable organizations for distribution to underprivileged persons under guidelines established by the director of the Department of Conservation.
