The Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau will rise above flood stage later this week, according to a Monday morning forecast issued by the National Weather Service.The forecast prompted the weather service to issue a flood warning for the river at Cape Girardeau starting Tuesday morning and continuing until the river goes below flood stage. Forecasts indicate the river will go over the 32 foot flood stage Tuesday morning and crest at 33.5 feet Thursday morning.All flood gates in the city remain open until the river reaches 34.5 feet, when the Themis Street gate closes.
