The Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau crested early, just above flood stage, according to the National Weather Service.

Last week, the river was expected to crest during the weekend at about 34 feet, but Friday afternoon it crested at 32.17 feet, just above the 32-foot flood stage on the Cape Girardeau gauge.

By 6:30 p.m. Friday, the river was at 31.93 feet and falling. At 32 feet, minor backwater flooding is seen on creeks and other tributaries but effects to people and business are minimal.
