The river here is forecast to remain stationary at 32.3 feet today and Wednesday, then rise to 32.4 feet on Friday.

The weather service said heavy rains last week and over the weekend in Iowa, Illinois and other Midwestern states north of St. Louis are responsible for this latest in a series of flood crests that have occurred at Cape Girardeau since March 11.

The highest flood crest here so far this year was 40.6 feet on April 20. On May 15 the river crested at 39.3 feet.
