CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A former employee of the Mississippi County, Missouri, Sheriff's Department was arrested after an internal investigation turned up evidence of criminal violations.

Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore said the investigation began last week, when jail administrator Cory Hutcheson found communications officer Julie Tatum Day had engaged in inappropriate conduct in violation of county policy.

During the course of the investigation, Moore, Captain Ken Story, deputy Mark Higgins and Hutcheson conducted several interviews and reviewed surveillance video to corroborate information obtained from sources.

As a result of the investigation, the deputies developed probable cause Day had violated a known legal duty as an employee of the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department, and her actions constituted a violation of state law.

After a warrant was issued, Day was arrested and booked into the Mississippi County Detention Center.
