SIKESTON, Mo. -- A joint narcotics investigation led to the Tuesday arrest of a Bertrand, Mo., man suspected of trafficking large amounts of heroin into Southeast Missouri. SIKESTON, Mo. -- A joint narcotics investigation led to the Tuesday arrest of a Bertrand, Mo., man suspected of trafficking large amounts of heroin into Southeast Missouri.

Daniel Shemar Murray, 28, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. One count is through Scott County with a bond of $100,000 cash only while the other is through Mississippi County and the bond is $75,000 cash only.

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, SEMO Drug Task Force and the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department conducted the investigation in which they reportedly discovered large amounts of heroin being transported from the St. Louis and Chicago areas to a man living near Bertrand, according to a news release from Sikeston DPS.

Sikeston's Special Operation's Group served a search warrant at the man's Mississippi County home about 6 p.m. Tuesday and located a large amount of heroin and three handguns. Murray is a prior felon and prohibited from possessing these weapons.

Murray remained in custody Thursday morning at Sikeston DPS.
