Miss Riverfest 1991 is preparing to give up her crown as entries are being accepted for the fifth annual Miss Riverfest competition. The pageant will take place June 12 in conjunction with Cape Girardeau's annual Riverfest celebration.
Riverfest '92 will be held June 12 and 13 in downtown Cape Girardeau.
For the first time this year, there also will be a Little Miss Riverfest competition, in celebration of the pageant's fifth year at Riverfest. The contest is open to any girl born in 1987. Contestants will be judged on two modeling presentations, casual wear and party wear.
To be eligible for the Miss Riverfest competition, contestants must be a high school student as of May 1, single, have no children, and must have a "C" grade-point average or above.
"The girl's will compete in an interview segment Saturday morning, and the casual and party wear modeling will be Saturday afternoon," said Carole Yount, chairman of the queen contest. Contestants will be judged on poise and personality, speaking ability and overall appearance.
An informational meeting will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Cape Budget Inn in Cape Girardeau. A photographer will take pictures for contestants for both pageants. Contestants are asked to dress appropriately.
Yount said there will be a stage production this year involving all the contestants. Because of this, it is essential that the contestants for the Miss Riverfest and Little Miss Riverfest pageants attend the mandatory meetings.
The first mandatory meeting will be May 21 at 2 p.m. at the Cape Budget Inn. The contestants will receive instructions for modeling and will begin rehearsing the production number. The $35 entry fee must be paid then.
The second mandatory meeting will be at 7 p.m. June 12, also at the Cape Budget Inn. Rehearsal for the stage production will be held, followed by a pizza party. Contestants will also vote for Miss Congeniality.
