Entries are now being accepted for the fourth-annual Miss Riverfest competition next month in Cape Girardeau.
About two dozen young women from throughout Missouri and Southern Illinois are expected to compete in the pageant, held in conjunction with Cape Girardeau's annual Riverfest celebration, June 7-8.
The Miss Riverfest pageant will be held June 8 on the Riverfest main stage on Spanish Street, across from the Common Pleas Courthouse terraces.
A mandatory meeting for all contestants and their parents will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Cape Budget Inn.
High schools throughout the region are being contacted by the pageant planning committee inviting them to nominate students for the title of Miss Riverfest 1991.
To be eligible for the competition, a young lady must be a high school student as of May 1, 1991, be single, have no children and must have a C grade average or above.
Contestants will be judged on the basis of poise, personality, dress, speaking ability and interview. The Miss Riverfest prize package includes a crown, trophy, flowers, dinners, a portfolio and a savings bond.
Miss Riverfest 1990, Heather Haubold, will serve as a hostess for the event and Miss St. Louis 1990, LuAnn Yount, will be the pageant's guest announcer.
One of the highlights of the pageant will be a performance by the St. Louis Professional Cheerleaders.
At the Tuesday meeting, contestants and pageant organizers will discuss dresses, make-up and contestants will be instructed on modeling techniques to be used during the pageant.
A photographer will be on hand to take photos to be used during the competition, so contestants are asked to dress accordingly. Sponsorship fees of $35 per contestant will be due at this meeting.
